SAP Financial Results Call - Q3 2023
The Financial Results Call is a quarterly public broadcast between the CEO, Executive Board Members, analysts, investors, and the media to discuss the company’s financial results for the previous quarter. One of the most important events for the Broadcast Technologies team and SAP at large, the technical execution needed to be flawless with ample contingencies in place.
As the date and time coincided in the Pacific Timezone, Dan was assigned the event. As an Event Manager, he contacted all stakeholders and cross-functional teams to flag the high priority event. He informed the network team to ensure stable connections, Akamai who assigned a live technical agent phone call for real-time monitoring of the CDN, the Broadcast development team, the Executive Communications team, and Executive Board Support in Germany to align on logistics and connecting into the call.
As a technical engineer, he prepared the livestream studio. He used an Intel NUC device to connect via Zoom with the Intel NUC in Germany where the CEO and other Executive Board Members physically sat. Into his switcher, he connected the NUC, he loaded a still image for “audio only”, and he connected a backup dial-in mobile device, and a video playback machine. The switcher sent program to a decimator that bifurcated the signal to primary and backup livestream encoders. Behind the backup encoder, he installed a Cradlepoint LTE device that would automatically switch to LTE should it detect a failure in the LAN connection. Ample testing was conducted in the weeks leading up to ensure rock solid operations.
On the day of the event, Dan simultaneously managed the phone call with Akamai, communications with Executive Board Support, and a group chat with senior members of the Broadcast team. He connected all devices and started the livestream encoders one hour early before checking in with Executive Communications to receive the final PPT that he converted for optimal performance and quality on the livestream platform. The event streamed flawlessly to all stakeholders with zero technical interruptions, bolstering the company’s reputation as a leading technology company.
